It starts with a story

Ava wants it.
What happens next?

In Ava Saves Up!, a pair of trainers catches Ava’s eye. Her story opens a conversation about wanting, waiting and choosing.

A moment to think

Tap, Tap, Pause.

Try the words at your own pace. A breath works too; nobody has to tap.

The whole routine

Take one breath, then ask, “Do I need it, or do I want it?” and “If I get it now, what can’t I get later?” Then choose.

Read the whole routine

Tap, Tap, Pause. Take one breath, then ask, “Do I need it, or do I want it?” and “If I get it now, what can’t I get later?” Then choose.

Wanting isn’t wrong. Spending can be a thoughtful choice too.

From the page to a conversation

One story. Something to try together.

  1. Read a little.Pause at a choice Ava faces. Ask what she might do next.
  2. Make the choice visible.Use pretend coins and two fictional choices. Talk about what choosing one would leave for the other.
  3. Take a question home.Families can try the same prompts when a useful moment comes up. Nothing has to be reported back.

An example of how the story can be used. No questions about a child’s own money or their family’s finances.

For organisations and local partners

Your people.
Ava’s story.
A useful place to start.

Your colleagues may already have the skills and relationships to lead activities. We can explore how PMA’s stories, resources and preparation could support the approach you want to take.

Start with one activity, one venue or a small trial. The format, materials, support and timing are agreed together.

Start with the sample. Then tell us your audience, setting and who would lead; together we agree materials, preparation, support, cost and timing.

02 / HOST A SESSION

Create an occasion.

Discuss a PMA-led or shared session for a library, community venue or family event.

What can we adapt, and what stays consistent?

Shape it around your setting. We can discuss the venue, session length, who leads, preparation, training and follow-up. Materials are supplied as agreed. Scope, costs and availability are confirmed before anything is booked.

Keep the child’s choice their own. The core routine stays consistent. School sessions need the school’s invitation and agreement. Materials children receive in school carry no sponsor branding or product promotion. No family financial disclosure is requested.

Care behind the colour

Clear about what exists.
Honest about what we know.

The book, school resources and family sessions give adults practical ways to explore money choices. Silverton is in early access. These are resources and experiences; their existence alone does not demonstrate lasting change for children.

Evidence so far is early school self-evaluation. We do not currently claim lifelong behaviour change, prevention of debt or scams, or a social return figure.

Quality marks and what they cover
Financial Education Quality MarkACT Quality MarkSocial Enterprise UK certified

The Financial Education Quality Mark, awarded by Young Enterprise and supported by the Money and Pensions Service, applies to the Ava Saves Up! School Edition (issue 0195, September 2026). The ACT Quality Mark applies to the separate four-lesson KS1 Economic Wellbeing Pack (October 2026). These marks apply to the named resources. Social Enterprise UK certified member no. 18088.

How we keep the conversation safe

We never tap a child’s wrist for them, use the routine as a warning or sanction, or ask a child or family about money at home. Children can choose whether to join in. “Share some if you can” leaves room for different circumstances.
